About Us

Location

Eildon Trout Farm is nestled beneath the foothills of the Victorian Alps two hours north east of Melbourne. The region is famous for the best trout fishing on mainland Australia with Lake Eildon, the Goulburn River and 20 or more mountain streams all containing trout.  Eildon Trout Farm sits on the banks of the Goulburn River and all our fish are grown in this sweet, crystal clear mountain water.

Spawning

Every winter we carefully hand milk our broodstock and nurture the fertilized eggs in incubators for one month until they hatch.

Nutrition

Our trout enjoy a world-class diet, which consists of fishmeal protein, vegetable protein, cereal crop for carbohydrates and all the essential vitamins/ minerals for healthy development.Trout and Salmon have the highest level of Omega-3 fatty acids of all fish. Omega-3 is widely recognized for the prevention of heart disease and several other health conditions. All our trout diets are chemical and hormone free.

Growing Ponds

Each of our 25 ponds are bird netted and the trout enjoy fresh river water flow 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Harvesting

After spending 1 year in the ponds with plenty of food and cold mountain water, the trout are hand netted into ice slurry, which drops their metabolism to zero - ready for processing.

Quality Assured

PrimeSafe’ certification guarantees our trout are among the freshest & healthiest in Victoria! Also endorsed by ‘International Quality Systems’ ensures our trout farm continually meets and supersedes growing expectations.

Environment

Eildon Trout Farm is committed to continually improving its environmental performance with current research in utilising our fish waste and converting it into valuable garden mulch.
